Diagram 2 - no stereo system
This diagram shows the use of a computer audio interface to connect audio components to the computer.  No separate stereo receiver/amp is required as long as a good set of amplified speakers (with subwoofer) are employed.  The guitar can be connected directly to the audio interface or can be plugged into a guitar amp with a line output.  This output can then be connected to the interface.

Note: Many Computer Audio Interfaces do not have preamps or inputs for phonos (turntables) or live instruments/mics.  Of course you can still record from tape decks, cd players and tuners (radio).  Be sure to read the product's information and specifications.
